About I Gallop On

My high school physics teacher might be pleasantly surprised to learn that, although I barely managed to pass her class, I do know something about the fundamental nature of matter and energy in the universe—

horse + rider = energy

horse + woman = energy

Additionally, horse + man = energy. (My wonderful husband is a horseman, and I don't want to be sexist!) As does horse + girl or horse + boy. But as a horsewoman, I speak best from my own experience.

No—you won't find this in any physics text, as I've no doubt Mrs. Hanlin would be quick to point out from amidst the beakers and bunsen burners of her 11th-grade science lab. But in my book, this is a fundamental theory of the universe. And that's what I Gallop On is all about. The energy generated between horse and human. If you have your own horse(s), if you love horses and spend time with them, or if you just admire them from a distance, then you've experienced it yourself.

Einstein has given us one wild ride with his theory of relativity—straddling a beam of light, bending starlight with gravity, even wrinkling time.

The horse gives us the ride of our lives as well.

I've traveled on his back at dizzying speeds and been granted safe passage to places I never dreamed I'd be. He imparts a little nobility to an increasingly ignoble world and gives leap to the imagination. I've experienced firsthand his genius and his spirit and even wrinkled a little time myself by undertaking new equestrian challenges in my forties and teaching my own children to ride. On a few occasions, he's shown me the undeniable force of gravity. And I keep climbing back into that saddle.

Despite a lifetime in his presence, I'm still filled with wonder each time I'm with him. I'm grateful that the horse is part of my life, infusing every day with energy. (And fun!)
