Ridden hard and put away wet

What kind of god drapes women from head to toe in yards of suffocating black?

What kind of god says that women should keep their mouths shut? Or that they can't be priests in his church? Oh, and then there's that silly matter with the apple, a piece of fruit, for crying out loud, and all that flurry of he said, she said and who gave what to whom.

Well. I'm feeling ornery today. And Jehovah. Yaweh. Allah. Whatever name he might be called in your neck of the woods.

He can just kiss my ass.

Loving your recent entries. :-) These are very provocative images.

I agree with you about the clothing and the apple. Unbelievable.

I'm with ya on this one.

Trouble is, Kimberly, "men putting words in God's mouth". There's nothing theological in the Bible restricting women from being priests or telling them to wear long black robes. Men made all that up, along with restricting women's access to education and keeping the vote from them practically into living memory. Islam, as a man-made religion created by a violent man in a time of conflict, has given ignorant men considerably greater rein to repress women.

You should read the "Song of Soloman" (a text long suppressed by men) to see that the Bible isn't all about being dull and "keeping women in their place".

I am SO with you on the apple. What, did Eve shove it down the poor widdle boy's throat? Grrrr. That and the cult of the Virgin Mary are pretty much guaranteed to set me off a full-blown frothing rant ...

It's odd you should mention the black/burka; my hubs and I were discussing this just recently. Undeniably I really loathe the rules and burka and fundamentalist Islam's attitude to women [which has nothing to do with how females are referred to in the Quoran, funny that eh]. But I CAN see the pros of the long raincoat and headscarf [hijab?] you see a lot of in muslim communities here in West Australia and Malaysia/Indonesia. As someone who has major self esteem issues, to the extent I sometimes don't want to be seen outside, that costume has advantages. No worries about scruffy clothes, my thighs, fat ankles, etc, you know? Guess that sounds terribly superficial but ...

Oh and I've been told by muslim women in burka and hijab that they wear damn sexy lingerie underneath all that and go nuts on skincare products. Their scarves are beautiful works of art. They tend to have a more positive physical self image. Interesting, non? Maybe it's brainwashing, maybe it's a valid cultural choice, who can judge if it is *their* decision? [as opposed to husbands/fathers] Just thought I'd throw that out there, that there are different ways of looking at things.

"What kind of God...?"
A misquoted God.

Hi Kimberly,

I happened to reread your comment on my otherideas blog in 2006 this morning. How are things with you? Greetings, Christine

Some people read it that way. Some people don't.

Our senior pastor is a woman. Jesus appeared first to women after his resurrection. It's clear that women were prophets and priests in the very early Christian communities.

Transylvanian Horseman put it all better than I can, though.
