The ancestors of the Canadian Horse came to Canada in 1665 along with the French settlers. In 2002, The Canadian Horse was officially recognized as the official horse of Canada. A recent genetic similarity study demonstrated that The Canadian is a close cousin to the Morgan. There are approximately 4,000 registered Canadian Horses.
