First cutting

We had hay delivered yesterday from Mallette's Feed in Las Vegas, NM. This is the first cutting from southern Colorado. Dennis stacked 220 bales in the barn yesterday, and today he is one hurting toad, as he likes to put it. I simply sat in the barn on top of a bale this morning and inhaled. I don't think there's a sweeter smell.
Hay delivery day at my house is the ranch man version of the coffee klatches that my mother and her Red Hat Ladies have. Although there's no Folgers or tea in dainty cups. Just Skoal. And Stetsons. Dennis and Russ Mallette talk and talk. And talk. Russ is an awesome guy. We've done business with him for years. He thought I'd run completely out of hay last weekend, and offered to deliver to the house on a Sunday, his only day off.
I'll bet you dollars to donuts Dennis showed Russ his new tractor...
