Leena's horses and a work in progress

Equestrian artist Leena Pekkalainen shows us a beautiful work in progress. From start to finish, she affords us a glimpse of art in motion.
With all the talk of New Year’s resolutions today, it would be easy to feel overwhelmed.
I have horses to care for, a barn to organize, a trailer to clean up for the spring, tack to oil, saddle pads to wash, kids who need my help as they continue to learn to ride—which, of course, comes after homework.
There’s vaulting practice, plans for competitions, and team travel. I promised myself I’d take dressage lessons this year, squeezed in somewhere (?!) between family and professional obligations. I’m trying to carve out more time for horse training, especially the work in hand I’ve been longing to do.
And then, of course, there are those 10 pounds ...

Seeing the evolution of Leena’s equestrian painting from a line drawing to a fleshed-out story in brilliant color reminds me of something that can soothe this New Year’s itch and that irritating there’s-so-much-to-accomplish-and-not-enough-time feeling—
It’s all a work in progress.
Happy New Year!
